2008 Training at New Paltz, NY

Next Training Session to be announced

Total Immersion is not only a revolutionary way to teach and practice swimming, but a unique career opportunity as well. If you love TI swimming, why not make your living teaching what you love?

TI instructors are distinguished from all others both by their ability to teach anyone to swim well, and their capacity to inspire their students to real passion for swimming and launch them on a Kaizen (Continuous Improvement) Swimming path.

Why Become a TI Teaching Professional?
Your most important motivation should be: (1) a deep passion for TI Swimming and a desire to share it with others; (2) a desire to advance your own practice and mastery by teaching others; and (3) the knowledge of how satisfying it can be to help others learn an essential life skill. And naturally, it’s equally important that you be able to earn a good living doing what you love.

How will I be trained?

Your career path begins as a Certified Coach. Our instructor development program (TITTC – Total Immersion Teacher Training Course) is designed to develop both teaching and people skills in small classes with personal attention. You’ll learn the fine points of how to diagnose and correct stroke flaws, and how to guide your students to mastery. We’ll cover in-pool instruction, and how to accelerate learning through subtle hands-on adjustment of head, limbs, torso – even the fingers. We’ll also cover video analysis and methods for presenting TI concepts and principles to individuals and groups.

What is my investment in money and time?

Becoming a Certified Coach (Freestyle only) requires an approximate time
investment of 80 to 100 hours.

Step 1: Attend a Total Immersion Weekend Freestyle Workshop (or a comparable amount of private instruction from a TI coach).
Step 2: A minimum of 20 hrs of pre-TITTC home study.
Step 3: 4 days of Teacher Training (TITTC).
Step 4: 10 hrs of post-TITTC coaching practice.

An additional 4-day course, at a later date, is required to become certified in the other 3 strokes (backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly), required for promotion to Master Coach.

Tuition for the 4-day Freestyle TITTC is $1800.
Tuition for the 4-day All Stroke TITTC is $800.

Be mindful that the key part of your development as a TI instructor will occur in the teaching you do post-training. Anticipate that it will take at least 250 hours of teaching experience to achieve basic mastery as a teacher. Our best instructors embrace the Kaizen philosophy – to continue improving as teachers, and swimmers, for life.

What will I receive for my tuition?

After registration is complete, each trainee will receive a materials packet and email confirmation sent with itinerary, lodging and travel info. The materials packet includes: Home Study Guide, Freestyle DVD, Extraordinary Swimming for Everybody book, 02 in H20 DVD, Coaching Career document.

How can I use my certification as a TI Teaching Professional?

New coaches are recognized at the Certified level with opportunities for advancement to the Senior and Master level.

Certified Coaches CAN:

  • Promote yourself as a Certified Coach and coach privately at a 1:1
Instructor to Student ratio (please note, we require an insurance policy for private instruction – for more info visit www.theriskpeople.com).
  • Assist Senior Coaches during weekend workshops, or coach in an
    established
TI Swim Studio. TI Inc will help Certified Coaches find local workshops, and facilitate their contact with Senior Coaches, as requested.
  • Give public talks, presentations, or attend expos organized by Total
    Immersion Inc.
  • Use the Total Immersion logo to market your business (as specified, pg 6).
  • Purchase any official TI- self-coaching tools (books, DVDs, etc) at discounted rates.
  • Purchase Total Immersion Coach apparel including suits, caps, shirts, etc.
    – at cost.

    Certified Coaches RECEIVE:
  • A listing on the Total Immersion website, which includes location and
contact information (Upon completion of post-TITTC requirements).
  • A certificate of certification (Upon completion of post-TITTC requirements).
  • Information on Senior Coach in your local area will be available upon request.
The Senior Coach can be an invaluable mentoring resource for a newly
certified instructor to develop teaching skills and gain coaching experience.
  • Complete library of TI-produced self coaching tools (Books and DVDs).

What can I earn?

A reasonable starting point is $55 to $65 per hour for independent teaching and $20 to $35 per hour for assisting a Senior Level Coach, or teaching in an established TI Swim Studio. From there the possibilities for professional and financial growth will be a function mainly of your vision and ambition, with the potential of one day having a TI swim school of your own, under license with TI. Your earning potential can reach $125 to $150 per hour, or more, as you gain experience.
