Listen Up: Podcast on Efficiency in Triathlon
by Terry Laughlin
While attending the 2014 Tri-Mania show in Bethesda MD on March 22, I joined Andy Weaver of the website From Doughboy to Ironman and the Ironman Year One podcast series for a ‘guerilla podcast’ as he calls it.
Andy had just attended a panel discussion I did with Danny Dreyer of ChiRunning and Shane Eversfield of Zendurance Cycling on the importance of efficiency in triathlon.
Give a listen to hear me and Andy talk about why efficiency is important to those in both the front and back of the pack. Among the benefits of efficiency we discuss are:
- Recover more quickly during training.
- Reduce risk of injury
- Longevity — Danny and I are both in our early 60s, with a combined 100 years in our sports, but we’re still injury free, performing well, and enjoying it—swimming in my case, running for Danny–more than ever.
And, finally, improving your efficiency is proven the best way to swim faster, because energy waste—not a lack of fitness or power—is the #1 problem facing swimmers.
