Certified Total Immersion Teaching Professional Betsy Laughlin is a life-long water enthusiast whose enjoyment of swimming stretches back to her first hazy memories of blissful summer days at the public pool while visiting family in Williston Park on Long Island. Raised in the Hudson Valley in New York and on a variety of waterfronts around the East Coast and beyond, she has played a variety of roles as a member of the Total Immersion “traveling swim circus” for many moons. From order-fulfillment and office duties, to juggling infant swim lessons, to manning the decks and beaches of Fishlike Freestyle Workshops and Open Water Camps, she is honored to play a part in assisting swimmers of all levels discover their potential for comfort, grace, endurance, and efficiency in the water. Since 2005, Betsy has taught private and small group lessons as well as weekend workshops at the New Paltz Swim Studio and Lake Placid Swim Studio in New York and has been an assistant coach at TI Teacher Training clinics. She has spent the past year coaching in Maryland, New York, the Caribbean, and Hawaii, and is certified to teach both freestyle and four-stroke. She enjoys working with a diversity of clients including fitness swimmers, triathletes, youth swim teams, special needs students, and swimmers of all ages. As a swimmer with expanding frontiers, she has completed open water races ranging in distance from 1 mile to 5k, including three consecutive days of stage racing in the Tex Robertson Highland Lakes Challenge in 2009, and finished her first ½ iron distance “Aqua-Velo” in 2009. She is looking forward to racing the ½ iron distance Musselman Triathlon in July 2010, assisting with Teacher Training in Europe in August, and finding continued inspiration in working with fellow aquaphiles, athletes, and coaches through the unwaveringly wise guidance of the master teacher itself, Water!
